Unless you happen to live in the North Pole, summer is officially in full swing! And one of our favorite colors for summer is GREEN!

Clients ask us all the time how they can incorporate lush greens into their home without “overdoing it.”

Green is the perfect color to infuse into your home or office for many reasons, but most importantly, it is considered the most “restful” color for the eye! Did you know green actually promotes tranquility and health?

Here are five practical ways you can incorporate summer greens into your home!

1. Throw a pop of green into a neutral area.

Most people worry that their greens won’t “match.” If you’re in a neutral area, it’s actually okay to display a couple touches of green! In fact, you’ll be amazed at how much it livens up the space. Your current accents, like hints of mustard yellow or burnt orange will pop too!

Quick Tip: Think outside the box! Stick a potted plant in a tight space or purchase a set of green seated chairs at your breakfast bar!

2. Place potted plants in unexpected places.

We LOVE this idea, and the possibilities are literally endless! Set a few small potted pretties on a clean, white chair in your entryway hall or mud room. Who would ever expect to see that? You’ll be amazed how fresh you’ll feel as you turn the corner and see a flash of green when you least expect it.

Quick Tip: If you won’t be passing by these often, select a plant that doesn’t require as much water such as a succulent.

3. Paint an accent wall.

This might sound intimidating to some of you, but think of it this way: one wall is easy to repaint if you can’t live with it! We love this unique way to brighten a guest bath, breakfast nook, or home office. It will likely inspire you to invest in a few more accent pieces to match, like fun throw pillows, vases and artwork.

Quick Tip: The wall that is the greatest initial focal point upon entering the room would be the most likely candidate to receive a fresh splash of paint! If your room is small, opt for a lighter shade of green to help it feel larger.

4. Hang dried plants, flowers and herbs.

This is a beautiful touch that will bring an earthy, calming feel to any room! Cherish a sweet memory by stringing up a bridesmaid bouquet or flowers you’ve picked from your garden. Try hanging them across the top of a large open photo frame or dangling from a mounted door handle. The best part? You can’t kill these greens!

5. Display vibrant fruits and veggies on your kitchen countertops.

I realize there are many interior designers who will strongly suggest that you leave your counters utterly bare. But what fun is there in that? As long as you leave things out intentionally and in an orderly way, this is a perfect way to bring the outside in!

Quick Tip: Grab some gorgeous stoneware baskets or a terrarium to display your lemons, limes, and multicolored peppers! It’s edible and functional!
